Nisha Sandhu
Nisha Sandhu, who recently joined Martin E. Regan Jr. and Associates, is a former prosecutor who accepted the firm’s offer to do the kind of work that drew her to New Orleans a decade ago: criminal defense.
Ms. Sandhu graduated from the University of Chicago in Medieval and Renaissance History. After graduating, she moved to Dallas, Texas, and began a career as a photographer where the idea of law school began to blossom. Her career in the field of law began as a legal assistant with nationally known Houston law firms. Her passion for the law and for defending the wrongly accused took a strong hold. She moved to New Orleans to attend Loyola Law School, beginning the period of life that permitted her to explore and determine the area of law that most suited her interests.
Ms. Sandhu graduated law school from the Loyola School of Law in 2005 and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar the following year. She has gained valuable knowledge of the legal system, clerking on state and federal levels in New Orleans. Ms. Sandhu’s experience as a writer, which she gained as an advertising executive and as a judicial clerk, serves her clients well.
Appellate practice requires attention to the finest detail and requires long hours of research and analysis. These are strong areas for Ms. Sandhu, who has done extensive research academically and professionally. Ms. Sandhu’s training in the criminal justice system is comprehensive, steeped in knowledge gained both in the public and private sectors. In the public sector, Ms. Sandhu learned the nuances of the legal system, and in the private sector she was able to hone her interest in defending the accused and protecting rights. Ms. Sandhu is trial savvy and court room ready.
