Human Trafficking Bills in Baton Rouge.

On Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee unanimously approved House Bill 569 that would allow courts create specialized divisions to handle human trafficking cases.

Gov. Bobby Jindal has backed the proposal as well as House Bill 1025, by state Rep. Neil Abramson, D-New Orleans, which institutes harsher punishments for human trafficking and related crimes.

According to Col. Mike Edmonson, superintendent of Louisiana State Police, human trafficking is a significant problem in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
