The War in Syria Breaks Your Heart.
I am sure we can all agree that war is never a good thing and that civilians are always the ones who suffer the lion´s share of damages and loss of life. According to a United Nations official, a little 4-year-old Syrian refugee boy who was found alone in the middle of the desert was thankfully reunited with his family across the border in Jordan.
The boy, who is known as Marwan, apparently became separated from his mother. Thankfully, a humanitarian worker for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees spotted him. When he was found, Marwan, was carrying a small plastic bag.
Marwan´s unusual discovery was shared by Andrew Harper, a UNHCR representative in Jordan. “Marwan was safely reunited w his mother soon after being carried across the #Jordan border,” Harper later tweeted.
Unfortunately, the boy is one of more than a million refugees that have left Syria in the last 3 years since the conflict began. It is said that more than 2 million people have fled war torn Syria, with many flooding into Jordan.
State John Kerry blasted Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime this past Monday by accusing the Syrian President of stalling peace talks and exacerbating the civil war.
“The regime stonewalled,” Kerry said during a stop in Jakarta. “They did nothing except continue to drop barrel bombs on their own people and continue to destroy their own country. And I regret to say they are doing so with increased support from Iran, from Hezbollah and from Russia. Secretary Kerry urged Russia to be part of the solution and not to contribute any more weapons and so much more aid that they are in effect enabling Assad to double down, which is creating an enormous problem.”
Although this story has had a somewhat happy ending as mother and child were reunited. One cannot help but think of the torn and separated families that may never find one another. One cannot help but think of the parents who have lost their children in a conflict that seems to have lapsed into a state of never ending limbo.
