Louisiana Labeled Second Most Unfavorable Jurisdiction in the U.S. for Civil Defendants. The Louisiana Tort Reform

Association, has recently published its annual report titled: “Judicial Hellholes.” The article identifies Louisiana as the second most unfavorable jurisdiction in the United States for defendants in civil matters. The term “Judicial Hellholes” is reserved for jurisdictions in which defendants often contend that they can’t get a fair trial. According to the report, Louisiana suffers from an overly-aggressive plaintiffs’ bar, expansive liability rules, court procedures that favor plaintiffs, and welcoming attitudes toward forum-shopping out-of-town plaintiffs. Of course, the title is not a badge of honor, and we wish we did not have to publish information such as this one, but the reality is that matters before the courts have to be taken seriously because the opportunities for things to go wrong are many.
