Today We Honor Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today the United States of America celebrates the live and times of Martin Luther King, Jr.  On the third January Monday of every year, we pause to honor a great man. And so it is today the country pauses to pay tribute to his vision and to his work.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an imperfect man, in an imperfect world.  He knew that peace and prosperity should be available to all Americans regardless of the color of their skin or the church where they worshiped.  Let us then join hands, Black, White, American Indian, Hispanic , Asian and Arab to honor a man who was not afraid to stand up for the oppressed.  Let us also remember that he sought equality through peaceful demonstration and not anger and rioting.  Martin Luther King, Jr.  knew that America would listen if his message was one of reconciliation and harmony.  He also knew that the establishment would have to be shaken to its core in order to provoke the change that was necessary, but he did it in such a way that attracted people from all walks of life.  He created a movement not a war.

There is no doubt that we are living at a time when the world is convulsing in anger and conflict.  Therefore, let us give the words of Martin Luther King the opportunity to ring cross America and the world.

Today is a good day for all world religions to join hands in order to seek world peace and not world domination.  Join one of the celebrations in our community and honor the memory of a great leader.

I am Attorney Martin E. Regan, Jr. and these are my personal thoughts.
